hey mom,
i am so grateful to hear that papa is doing ok and that he is recovering alright. are you still up in phoenix or did you return home yet. haha that is so cool and cute the dogs that come and visit him. are they just from some animal shelter or who´s dogs are they. well here is my week.
Monday - Monday night we had a family home evening with this family and we were talking about thoughts and how they affect us. it is so true that what ever our thoughts are is what our actions will lead to. also my companion said something very interesting. about 95 percent of the time our thoughts are there because it is where we are going. where we are going makes a huge impact on our thoughts. for example, if we are going to church we will have thoughts about what we will be doing there, the savior, and etc. but if we are going somewhere bad, then we will have bad thoughts. we need to be going to good places so we will have good thoughts and in return good actions.
Tuesday - Tuesday we went to this place that i am not a big fan of, it is called tierra blanca, but we have a lot of investigadores there so we go there quite a bit. we taught this one kid named Brandon. he has like 17 or 18 years. but it really cool. i help him learn English a little bit and then we teach him afterwords but he is super cool. oh and then we had this meeting with the bishopric that night and i came up with this idea for an activity. it is going to be super cool. we are planning it for this Saturday, but all the members are to bring friends to the activity and the choir is going to sing, and some families are going to sing, and then we are inviting the mission president and a senior elder and then after we will watch a movie. it is going to be so awesome and the ward is really excited about it. also i planned a night of contacting with the youth because they need so much help it is so sad. i can just see that they are struggling and they need to be better. the bishop also gave them a pretty hard talk on Sunday with them. but anyways hopefully we can help them a little.
Wednesday - We woke up and were heading up to tierra blanca, when we saw one of our investidadores who was having a problem. we asked her what happened and she said there was this girl who´s parents died and she had nothing, she had no food nothing to drink and sooner or later will have no where to live. so we gave like 5 quetz for Marielle to go and buy food. but then after our lunch we ran to the store and bought some rice, some top roman and etc and then took it to the house of the little girl. it is weird, here in Guatemala they have a tradition that when someone dies they keep the body in the house for a couple days while they mourn and they all sit in a circle, and who ever wants to can come by and mourn with them. so we went in and they were so happy to see us. we dropped off the food said a prayer and left. we are going to try and visit them this week when we can and teach the plan of salvation. it is so sad how poor these people are and they literally have nothing. but hopefully this girl can find help and get what she needs. i know that god is with her.
Thursday - We went and taught this little kid who is going to be baptized soon. i taught him the book of Mormon and the importance of it. it went really well and i helped him really understand why it is important. i got him to the point to where he was just like just give it to me. haha he wanted it so bad. but yeah it is all about how you present it. and i think i did a pretty good job. then we went to this one lady and taught her too and she loved what we taught her too. she was super cool and really humble. and her kids are so funny too. it was hilarious because as we were teaching the little girl kept asking for water. and would cry when no one gave it to her. so i kept giving her water, at first she kept going to the mom and then the mom would hand it to me, but after awhile the girl just started coming to me. ha but when we had to leave the little girl started crying and was like, i don't want him to leave. hah it was so funny.
Friday - In the morning for friday we went to go to a lesson. but they weren't home so we were all bummed out because we bearly missed the lady. so we were walking back when all the sudden this random lady we contacted the night before was like hey you guys passed by here last night right. and we were just like, yes, and she was like well do you have time right now to teach me. ha were like we sure do. ha so we went in and we started to teach her, her mom, and her sister. it was so cool they loved everything we said and told us that they know we are truly messangers from god, we told them if they prayed and found out the church is true would they get baptized, and they said yes, so we will visit them this week and see how they are doing. pretty cool people they are. then we were going to give them a book of mormon but they told us they already have one and that we can give ours to someone else who would enjoy it too. the book of mormon they had was from like the 90s, i was thinking how cool it was that the elders then planted a seed and now we are here watering the seed and helping it grow. so after that we had divisions with the zone leaders. it was pretty fun. I went with a kid named Elder Sevilla from hondurus. he is a super cool kid, and in the mission is actually my step brother. but anyways we did a lot of contacting and had a great time. he was impressed because last time we went we couldnt really talk because i didnt know spanish but now i could pretty much talk to him about everything. it is a really cool thing being able to talk now in spanish. then that night we went and got some tacos. I was going to buy one but then Sevilla convinced me to buy 2 so we both bought 2 and went back to the house to eat them. i ate one at night and one in the morning but man they were so good.
Saturday - Remember the tacos we bought Friday night. haha, turned out to be a bad idea. haha, i have been having to go to the bathroom so much ever since then. it is getting back to normal but man haha it was painful. so me and sevilla woke up and did some more contacting. then we went to eat lunch with a member in their area named hermana guniack. she is super super cool and i sent a picture of her too. we ate beans, with chili and hot dogs soup, and rice. then she made brownies with nutella and ice cream and wow it was super good. she is such a cool lady, she is the one who is going to make me a cake for my 6 month birthday this Friday. ha. so after lunch i returned to Mixco with my comp and we did some work. although it was tough because i had to go to the bathroom like every hour, but luckily we kept finding new members for me to destroy their bathrooms, haha. but we also put a fecha with this one lady who knows the church is true and wants to be baptized. but after we put a fecha we found out she wasn't married, so we told her we would help her, but then she told us she was an illegal so she couldn't get married, but we are going to help her get her papers and get married here. also that night there was this lady who i ate at her house when i was with hardy and she saw us walking and asked us to come into her house real quick. ha she showed me these really really nice shoes and i wasn't going to buy them at first because they looked like 200 quetz shoes. but then she told me she was selling them for 300 and she told me only for me she would give them to me for 30 quetz. i was just like. deal, ha they are pretty sweet but i can only wear them for church. then we went back and me and my comp ordered some pizza and had a good time just talking. we are really starting to get along now and it is fun, but its sad too because changes are a week from this Wednesday and i don't want to leave. but what ever the lord wants right.
Sunday - Sunday was pretty good, we brought this man to church and he loved it so much. he is the one who has a family of 50 that we are working on trying to teach them .hopefully we can do so. but anyways we went through church and he loved it. and says he wants to get baptized. so were going to try and put a fecha with him this week. by the way fecha means date. like date for baptisim. Also i don't know if you guys went to the leadership meeting on Sunday about the new manuel the church has but during it there was a example of a bishopric meeting from Guatemala. i know that bishop really well and the mission leader and i have worked with them. the bishop was actually sitting next to me when we watched that. it was so dang cool. and also during the video they went and visited the family and i have visited that family too. I'm not sure if you saw what one of the girls was doing in a weird looking thing but that is called a pila and she was washing clothes. but yeah it was super neat. ha after the meeting i went up to him and told him, wow your famous. ha he was crying when the president of the young mens was complimenting him for what a good job he does and stuff. that is so cool. if you didn't see it i think it might be on the lds.org website. (This video is on the lds.org website [Worldwide Training - click: Working with the Ward Council] - it was so GREAT to see life in Guatamala) so anyways after that meeting we went and visited this one girl who was a reference. and she was nervous at first because she wasn't sure how we got her information but we explained and then she invited us in. we taught her a little and she is super cool and told us she loves our message. I love sharing the message of the restoration with the people here. it is such a beautiful message and people are always so happy after we share it. i haven't met one person who was mad after we have shared it. and they cant deny it either. they know it is true and they feel the peace we tell them they will feel after we share it. it is just after we leave Satan really does his work on people and pulls them away from the spirit. it is so sad. but anyways the lesson went really really well.
There is my week, I'm not sure if i asked for these things but i need some hair clippers also, pens and face wash really badly. with the hair clippers it will save me money from going to the barber. but anyways that is all. i love you guys so much and am praying for you always to have the spirit of the lord with him. it is real and he is real and he will never abandon us. only we can abandon him. so strive to be better and live the gospel which is his. it is no game it is no joke, this is his church and he loves us. i love you guys.
love elder daniel shipley
**Daniel wrote me today and said: "Craig, Garrett and I wear our "tie" the 1st day of the month" - how cute is that - I love these young men!!
