(hey mom, i got your letter, we found a little time to come back and email one last time, but yeah i received your letter today with the book and memory chip and your testimony, wow that was really powerful, the people here will love it, thanks for sending that. i'm glad to hear that papa is doing good and that all your guys are staying healthy and doing alright. i love you guys so much. i know you are all receiving the blessings for me being here and that you guys are in good care, that is what keeps me here knowing that you are in the hands of the Lord and that He looks after you. what blessings you guys receive and all families who have missionaries. haha how weird that papa was holding hands with another lady. haha, but yeah well i better get going. just a reminder if you can send me an Arizona jersey like an ASU football one, and some hair clippers, and the other stuff too. i love you guys and hope all is well. i´ll talk to you later. ps how long is brother banner here for. well i´ll talk to you later. love elder daniel shipley)
Monday, so on Monday we went to Kaminal Juyu and it was really really cool. it is an ancient site and the people actually believe that it was a pretty big part in the book of Mormon history. which was really cool, we placed a couple books of Mormon there too with the people who work there. but that will definitely be a place that we can come back and visit when we return. but anyways that is really all that happened in Monday.
Tuesday - We had our district meeting on Tuesday and it went really good, we talked about the book of Mormon and the power of it. it was so good, and it really built my testimony of that book. the book really is so powerful and it is sad that the book is so misunderstood by the world. because all it talks about is testifying of Jesus Christ. and how he really did come to the Americas, the Bible even testifies of this book and it is so sad for the people who say that they have their Bible and they think that is all they need. Christ even says in the book of Mormon what fools of people to think that he would only write one book. what fools that they would think he would only visit Israel. what fools for them to think he would only give a book to one tribe of the house of Israel and not the others. there are more books, books that we don't have yet, and they are yet to come. the book of Mormon is one of those books and it testifies of the Americas. but there are also people in Australia, and south America, and other places in the world. God loves the whole earth as a whole and he doesn't just love one people. now we have a prophet and it is easy for the word to get around the world. but back then it was impossible, God called apostles in all the lands to testify of him and to let the people know that he is the Christ and that he will come to redeem his people once again. how cool is that. so after this meeting we just went to Tierra Blanca and contacted all day, it went really well and we had a blast. and met some really cool new families that we will be teaching soon.
Wednesday - so in the morning we get a call from our Zone leaders that President is on his way to our house for house inspections and interviews. haha, wow we cleaned that house so fast and got it to look presentable enough so he wouldn't be furious. ha but we need to be better at keeping our house clean. i am going back to my neat freak ways and now the little bit of dirtiness bugs me, haha, but anyways he came and it went really well. Hermana Alvarado inspected the house while he interviewed us and made sure we are doing work and not playing around. he was really impressed and happy with what we are doing but told us we can always improve, so we made goals with him to help us be better. it went really well and i have such a desire to work even harder now. so we went and taught some lessons and they went really good but more importantly was with this one guy who is a recent convert, I'm counting him as my convert because i got him reactivated, haha, but anyways i was supposed to do the lesson and i had no idea what to teach. i just couldn't find out what i needed to say until i walked in the house. i knew i needed to teach the Gospel of Christ. I went in and shared a little history of Christ and his gospel. then shared 2 Nephi 31 21, and gave the intro in to the doctrine. then I shared Moroni 7 33 and 34, about having faith, repenting and baptism. then i told him after we do those things, we need to receive the holy ghost and endure to the end. The gospel of Christ is so easy and anyone can do it. God is not a God of confusion and he wants all his people to be able to return to him, and through those things we can do just that. it is perfectly planned and how cool is it that we can do just that. so the guy loved the lesson and said it was what he needed to hear, then we went to another house and i felt prompted to teach about service to others, i told them as they do service to others and think of others first they would receive blessings. i promised them that if they served others first, especially god, the baby that they are going to have next month would grow up healthy and strong in the church and would be the baby that they want to have. it was really cool and the spirit was so strong there.
Thursday - Today was a funny day too. i almost died in my shower this morning. so i was showering and all the sudden i hear this electric sound above me, ha, when i looked up the shower wires were sparking and the shower was on fire, haha, i just yelled, oh crap, turned off the water and ran out, ha, all i could remember was what brother Mendenhall told me how the showers down here are like that for the heat. and sometimes you get a little zap, ha luckily i didn't get zapped but almost. anyways so we worked pretty hard that day and got a lot done. We also taught this one guy named Sergio, he is a really stubborn guy and he knows that our church is true but he just doesn't want to be baptized. he knows he needs to but he keeps saying that he just doesn't feel ready. i know he is ready he just needs to do it. but yeah so hopefully we can get him baptized this next month, if i am still here. we will see, ha. and also that day we had a family home evening with this one family and they taught about the spirit and about the strength it can bring into families and how it can guide us to do what is right. at that moment i realized that is something i want to have in my life for ever as well. i want to strive in my future family to always have that spirit because we can work so much better and get a lot more accomplished when we have that.
Friday - So today i birthed 6 months in the mission. pretty cool huh. I cant believe how fast time is going i still have alot of time left but that brings comfort to me because I'm not ready to go home yet, i still have so much to do here. so anyways we had divisions this day and i went with my good friend who is the zone leader elder sevilla. ha and no we didn't eat tacos this time. but we ate pretty good. a lot of people made me pancakes and what not and at night when we went to our dinner comedor we ate pizza and pancakes. ha it was so dang good. anyways so during this day we went and visited a couple people. One being Mariella Paz. i feel so bad for her, she wants to be baptized so bad but her husband just keeps saying no, he says she can be baptized in any church but the Mormon church. it is so sad. so this week we are going to go talk with him and see whats up. but we will probably baptize her within the next month. also i went and visited my other convert Ernesto and he is doing good, just the wife has been sick so that is why they haven't been in church but he says they are going to make an effort to get going again, i just taught them about the importance of enduring to the end and the blessing we can receive if we can do that. so hopefully he can take that message to heart and change his ways.
Bump Day means six months have gone,
Some have been short and some very long,
The road has been Bumpy, but you have trudged on.
You've worked very hard not to go wrong,
The Spirit whispers, "You're where you belong".
Some have been short and some very long,
The road has been Bumpy, but you have trudged on.
You've worked very hard not to go wrong,
The Spirit whispers, "You're where you belong".
Sunday - So Sunday was a really good day too. first of all we were in church and i was sitting in my Sunday school and my teacher from the ccm, my favorite teacher Hermana Sosa came and visited me in church. i was so excited, ha i couldn't even talk i was so happy she was there. but the cool thing is that i was able to understand her a little bit and could hear what she said. then she just talked to me about my mission and how i can be better and make it count because it is going fast. she really got me motivated and i am going to be better now. so that was good. also in priesthood i shared my testimony on service and the importance of it. i told them how it is the little acts of service that helps people stay active in the ward, not by just praying. like it says in the scriptures, faith without works is dead. well praying with work is dead too. we need to act, if we do our part, God will do his part. Also i ate a whole fish today. ha i didn't know if i was going to be able to do it but i did, haha and it was actually really good. i loved it. but yeah ha i guess i was wrong all these years. so that is pretty much all that happened.
So that is my week just a couple things, if Brother banner wants to be able to see me he should talk to the office if he can. they might give him permission to do so but it is better if he talks to them and not me. also if you can send me a jersey too, i would like that, i would like a ASU jersey please if you can. so that is all. i hope all is going well and you guys are are all staying healthy. i love you all so much and pray for you always. love you guys.
love
Elder Daniel Shipley
