How is it going. well i had a pretty decent week. on paper it doesn't look to good but we still did a lot of good stuff.
Monday - so last week for our pday we didn't do to much we just went to the chapel in our area and we just played basketball. i hung out with one of my buddies, elder johnson and we just talked about stuff and about the mission and what we have planned for afterwords and etc. it was a pretty good talk we had. then me and my comp went up to mixco park and we ate at this place called pollo campanero. it was pretty dang good. then i printed off a couple pics and then we returned to the house. we did some cleaning and stuff and since our appointments cancelled we went to the internet place again so i could make copies of these cds i wanted.
Tuesday - it is a bummer because i didn't bring my agenda because i really can't remember what we did this day. i know we taught a couple lessons that were in tierra blanca and they went pretty well. i remember we taught this one guy who is ready for baptism about the word of wisdom and the law of tithing. he was really startled by it but he said that he feels like if this is the right church then it must be inspired so he promised to live it. wow if only all of our investigators were like that. haha. coffee is a really hard thing that we face here. everyone is drinking it and is way way way addicted to it, but when we explain it to them, they just say, oh but I'm not addicted. then we ask so why can't you give it up. then they say, because i can't function without my glass of coffee in the morning. ha, it is just frustrating sometimes.
So Wednesday - well i don't think Guatemala will be calling us for service anymore. so we went to this place where we had to clear out some land. they are planning on making either a pool or a soccer field for the community. so we had our machetes and hoes to do the work for us, it was the zone that we did service with, and we worked really really hard for about a good 5 hours. then when we had cleared the whole field we had piles of the earth we cleared.
so i thought we were going to take it to a truck or something, but i forgot we are here in guatemala where they just burn all their trash in the fields. so sure enough the guy who was in charge of us takes a match and lights it on fire. it started out normal and was controlled but then it started climbing up this tree, and then got out of control and left the area we were in and started heading for houses. ha the guy was freaking out and everyone was just like fighting it. we called the fireman but they didn't come until 40 mins later. ha it was so funny, we were all throwing dirt and water at the fire and we actually beat it ourselves.
needless to say, they said we were done so we just went to go eat after that and the food was pretty good.
that was quite an eventful day and then we just headed up the mountain for our appointments that night. they pretty much all canceled on us so after awhile we just headed down when it was time and went to our dinner.
Thursday - so we put in a pretty good hard working day, but the problem was that we left with some members who walk pretty dang slow. so we didn't get too many lessons in and we tried to contact as we walked because it wasn't working with them. so we visited this one lady who was the mother of a member but had something happen on her leg so she cant go to church but she loves it when we come by to visit her. anyways it was a pretty good visit. then we went to these other peoples house that we have dates with and i taught them about the chapter of baptism from 2 nephi 31. it went really good and they loved it. it was just completely awesome because when we were over they told me i made no mistakes in my Spanish. haha i was so happy. but yeah it was pretty sweet and they loved the lesson, they said they loved the lesson and really enjoyed.
Friday - So friday we woke up and me and my comp had service again. we just went to these one peoples house for service and we chopped logs again. it was pretty sweet. we were like joseph smith and they were asking if we were professionals. ha we just said we were really strong.
after the service we went home to shower and then we headed up the mountain again to work and do some contacting. we had some pretty good success and taught a couple people. we found this new guy who had an accident about 2 months ago. he said he almost died but that for some reason and by some miracle he lived. we just kept telling him that there is a purpose he is here and why he is still alive. then we taught a little about the plan of salvation. it is so weird i honestly believe that people are prepared for us to meet them. it was so cool, the guy just kept telling us that he could feel the presence of God there with us and that we had something special Spirit in our lesson. it was pretty neat. so the rest of the day went pretty much the same too then we went to our comedors house for dinner and while there i decided to cut my hair all by myself for practice. ha it turned out pretty good and i like it alot. although it really wasn't that hard to do. PS - elder hardy went home this day, so he is with his family now.
Saturday and Sunday - so all day saturday we were pretty much in the church listening to conference. it was pretty much amazing I don't know if it is because i am a missionary or what but i have just gotten so much out of this conference. it was amazing, i loved the talks from president monson this time around too and also from elders holland and bednar. they were really good. i just got so many ideas out of this conference for what i want in my future marriage. I've realized i want to always be in the honeymoon phase with my wife. My mission president told me that the love he has for his wife has never changed. it is always the same and he says they have never fought or anything bad has happened to them in their marriage. he told me that it is the same with the apostles and prophet, and that is why you feel such a strong love with them. that is definitely something i want really bad. i think it is something really cool, we need to have open conversations with them and that is the way we can love each other. but yeah i really really loved all the talks and just learned so much. it was cool, the way i talked to president was because he came to our session in the sunday afternoon it was really cool. he is such a cool guy and is always just so animated and excited with what he is talking about. but yeah so that is pretty much my week. well i´ll talk to you later. i love you guys.
love elder daniel shipley
