well me and my comp had a great week this past week. we are having a blast here and we are really making the fullest of our time. after my last change i have really tried harder to be a better missionary and i want to be the best one here. i love this work and have really lost my self in the work. how do i know? well im not looking forward to mondays anymore. i look forward to sundays to see how many investigators we can get in church and that really does measure our success because we can see who is progressing and who is not. but yeah, so with a couple people we have been watching the new joseph smith movie. i just cant tell you hoe much i love that movie. the spirit is always so dang strong when we watch it.
we watched it with our one investigator who´s name is nineth, she is a really cool lady and i really hope she can progress and change her life for the better. she is having a difficulty. but we're helping her to be better and to rely on god´s plan to learn what she needs in her family.
there is this other girl we met who´s name is madiline who is 17 and she has a baby who is 2 years old. we were teaching her about the plan of salvation and when we got to the atonement she asked us if she could be clean of her sins. and the lesson turned really spiritual from that point. we were telling her through the atonement we are all saved and we can all be clean of our sins. it was so cool mom. the look on her face was amazing and you could just see the hope that we put in her now that she can have a chance and she can really change. now she has some serious problems so we´ll be working really hard and trying to get her to be better and to have a true change of heart. hopefully with that change the family can see how it blesses her and we can soon get them too to start teaching.
also there is this lady who´s mother died a week ago and we went to pay a visit to her. we found out she has a husband, but not married, and 3 kids who are not members, so we began teaching them. they are a really cool family and they are really progressing. i think we can probably get them baptized soon and get them into the church. our goal with them though is getting them to the temple so they can feel the spirit there and then get there in a year so they can be sealed as a family. the mom is a member so we will try to get her to the temple soon so she can do the work for her mother. but yeah.
also there is another member lady who is an inactive, her name is rosa maria. she is a awesome lady. and super super humble and really nice. it was awesome. we had a lesson with her last night and it was super spiritual and really awesome. and in the end i invited her to come to church and to start her life all over with a new plate and to be better and to live the commandments more so she can receive the blessings she needs. she committed to it and said she would come. so we will be working hard on her and getting her reactivated and also her daughters are not members i believe so we may have some baptisms from them too. i hope soo. after the lesson something even more amazing happened too. haha, she made us grilled cheese sandwiches. i totally forgot about those and oh man it was amazing. i heard her cooking them and i could smell it, and i asked her, hermana, what are you making. and she told me a sandwich with cheese. and when she came around the corner with those, me and my comp were sooooo happy. haha it was funny.
but yeah me and my comp have been having a blast here. i sent nanny a letter in the mail and i think she is really going to love it. tell me what she says when she receives it. but you have to let me know. and i dont have beckys email so i cant send her a letter. but wish her the best from me and i hope her day goes well. tell her i love her and she really is making the best decision she could ever make. she will be so blessed, there will be trials but she will be so blessed for her decision. like that one quote that i love. i never said it would be easy, i just said it would be worth it. i wish i could be there but i´ll be there in spirit. but yeah i hope it goes well.
man we are having a blast here though, there are soooo many funny stories to tell, but those will have to come when i get home. sorry but i want to be able to talk to you guys when i get home for like 3 days straight and if you know everthing there would be no point. haha, and about the money thing, you should tell the group your in that my mission is the mission in the world that recieves the least amount of money. we receive the basics and dont get to much. i try not to spend to much, i only spend money on pdays so it isnt that much. our new president is really frugal too so he will probaby be taking more money out from us.
anyways about elder oakey. he was my dear friend here in the mission. and i was so sad to hear the news about him. we found out tuesday morning and it was just horrible news. i thought it was like a sick joke or a dream but i just couldnt believe it. i really do hope the best for him and his family. we are not aloud to say to much but we know that he is in critical condition. our prayers are going out to him and his family though that they can have god with them at this dificult time. it amazes me how fast news gets out though. when did you guys find out.
i never found those memory cards so idk. are you sure you sent it. i am doing really well and staying really healthy. we are really receiving blessings here and working super hard, i love my comp elder mabey and he is such a great example to me.
we are working super hard and being obedient, and finding out how to have fun. i love the rain in case you couldnt tell im being sarcastic. but elder mabey tells me that when we work in the rain my wife is out working out in the gym, so she better be freaking strong. is that marion girl strong. haha. kidding. but yeah i love the work here and i hope all is going well for you guys. i miss you a ton and love you lots.
to close this past week i have been studying alot about the atonement of christ. i love that subject so much and it is so comforting to study it. to know that literally we can be clean though anything we do. any sin we have we can repent for it. we can be the best people in ther world and try our hardest. there was a quote from a book i read that said, do your best and god will do the rest. but from what i know, god will only do the rest if we really have done our best. that means if its at the end of a football game and we are just wiped out and about to die, bloody, and beat tired and we cant do anymore. god will then come in and help us with what we need. there is a movie called facing the giants and has a scene that really demorstrates this scene well. here is the scene.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?
remember god is always on our team. he is our coach, he knows what we can do, we need to believe in him. he will never leave us and will always cheer us on.
well i love you guys and hope all is well. have a good week.
love your son,
elder shipley
