hey mom, oh my goodness that is really really good news. tell aunt becky i am so happy for her and i wish i could be there so badly but i will be there in spirit. and i will be thinking about her all day, you wanna know what's really cool is that the 24th of july i was baptized and confirmed so that is way cool. me and her will share that day for the confirmation. tell her i love her and she is such an example to me and to many people.
i still havent met our mission president yet but i will soon. i think we have interviews next week, im really really excited. i cant wait. but yeah, from what i hear he is a really really cool guy and really nice and his wife is the nicest lady ever i hear. and my new companion is a really cool guy too. i am learning a lot from him and he is a really hard worker. i have learned a lot from him and we are working really hard and receiving a lot of blessings. well here is my week.
Monday - so you pretty much know how the last monday went. we went to ihop and played baseball with 2 different zones and it was a blast. we had so much fun. then after that we went to a fhe with the family guzman and the family rodriguez. they are really cool families. president rodriguez is the 1st counselor in the stake presidency. he is a funny guy. anyway we had a lesson on how we need to have a lot of faith in jesus christ and rely a lot on him. without him we are nothing. which is so true, if we had no faith, we wouldnt have what we do, but it was a good lesson. then we had a delicious dinner with them too. it was good.
Tuesday so on tuesday for our district meeting all we did was play ping pong and it was really fun. of course i was the champ, haha but we had a blast playing. me and my buddy erickson was a pretty intense match but we had fun. then after we went and worked pretty hard in our area. we went and found this one street and we contacted it. we taught 2 people and they were really creepy. we ended up calling the street creepy ave. but we found out that the street is one family and there are about 100 members. so we´ll see what happens, hopefully we can teach all of them. can you imagine, um president, this week we had 100 baptisims and 100 confirmations. haha that would be funny. but yeah then we went with this one lady named nineth. she was an old investigator but were visiting her again. she is really cool and really nice. we walk in and we were just like do you have a question. she was just like, yeah who is joseph smith. haha so we taught about that and she loved it. then we also that night went wtih a family that is new to the area and we dedicated the house for them. it was really neat and they loved it. is our house dedicated. you should have dad do that. it is easy to do. but yeah. so that was our tuesday.
Wednesday - So wednesday we went and worked pretty hard this day too. we are doing a lot of contacting in the area because there is really nothing else we can do but we are finding some cool people doing so. we found this pregnant lady and we taught her about the plan of salvation and she was really interested in it. we just taught her a lot about where her baby comes from. so she really liked that. but yeah it was sweet. then man oh man, it rained like i have never seen it rain before. lets just say it made my water proof shoes look like a joke. haha, my shoes were full of water and my socks were soaking wet and my pants too. luckily i had that jacket i came with which kept my shirt dry. but it stunk. we just ran to the church and waited for it to pass over. once it calmed down a little bit we went to a dinner appointment and it was good. we just ate some meat and beans and eggs, but it was good, haha it was funny i found out the daughter of the family could speak in english and she didnt like it. but when i saw her, i was just like, i know you know english and she was just like, aye no, haha and ran away. it was funny. but yeah that was our wednesday.
Thursday - So on thursday we went exploring. we found another trial on the oppisite side of the area and so we went and checked it out. we went to see what was down there. we had some fun down there too. we were just acting so dumb. but it was funny. but im really starting to think thah mountain side living is really beautiful. i like it so much more better and it is more unique. so that was fun. then we went contacting a little bit more. ha i just got sick of not getting into anywhere so i told this one guy in a contact, sir, we havent got into one house this whole day and we just keep getting rejected. will you please let us in so we can bless your lives. haha and he let us it. haha it was a miracle. so we taught him really quickly about the families cause he had to leave but we taught him and now we will return this week. but that was cool. ha, so yeah, then that night we went and visited a family by the family reyes and they were cool. we just taught them about the book of mormon and how we need the spirit in our lives. without it we are nothing and we cannot function without it and cant live our lives. we really got through to them and they enjoyed the lesson. but yeah it was sweet.
Friday so friday we contacted this one lady's house whose name is heidi. haha she is a funny girl. she always whispers to us that she cant talk right at that moment because of her aunt. she is a weird kinda person but we found out why. haha she was talking to us and then her aunt comes around the corner and just starts yelling at us. the aunt is like, were catholic, get out of here you mormoms, you guys dont know anything we were born catholic and we will die it. haha i was just like well mam, why dont you let her choose for herself, heidi is like 35 by the way, but the mom was just like, noooooooooooo, then my comp was just like , wow do you know who else doesnt like to let people choose, and she was like who. and he said satan. haha she just lost it, then we were on our way, haha but it was funny. but it really is sad though how she held her back. but yeah, so that night we also visited 2 different families one the mother just died so while we were there and we taught about the plan of salvation and it went really really well. we actually got like 3 out of the 6 to come to church on sunday with us. then later on that night we went with the family reyes. we just taught them from the jeffery r holland talk from the april 2009 conference. i suggest you read that, it is an amazing talk and it is so good. i get teary eyed when i read it. but yeah it is great. they loved the lesson and really enjoyed the message we brought.
Saturday - so a couple things happened this day that were funny. there was this one guy who was standing on his porch shirtless and was working out, but all he was doing was moving his knees and throwing his arms up in the air. haha it was hilarous. then he leaned to the side and let out a little fart, haha we were laughing so hard. then there was this other house where the lady tried hiding from us. but my comp just kept saying we can see you, then he reached over and tapped her on the head and she popped up and was like oh sorry i didnt hear you, haha but yeah it was funny. then we also found this one lady who was cutting wood alone so we helped her cut wood and then they gave us this red stuff to drink. not sure what it was but it was good. ha, then we found this lady who was 87 years old. walking down like 100 stairs. can you believe that. i asked her where is your family. and she just said well my son is to lazy to help and doesnt have patience. i couldnt believe that. it made me so mad. so she grabbed onto my arm and i walked her down the stairs. it was so sad to see that. but she was a really nice lady. but yeah then we had our english class where we just played a game called do you love your neighbor and then we had our correlation with our mission leader it was a pretty good day though.
Sunday - so church went as normal it was cool we had 4 investigators in church and i think one was a catholic pastor. so that was cool, but other than that it went normal. by the way in church they just assign topics and then the people are expected to talk on their own stuff. they dont give out the liahonas because then the people just read from them here so they stopped that. haha. but yeah. so that day, we had 2 lessons and they were pretty cool. one was this one guy who was super smart. i mean he really knew his stuff. he taught us a little bit, pretty much until we got to the joseph smith part. which he loved so we will see what comes from him. and another guy, he was just kinda weird but once we got in and taught him he was a cool guy. he was just super tired from work so his hari was all sticking up and he was hungry. so we taught him quickly about the purpose of missionaries and why were here and then we were on our way. but he is a really cool guy. named giovani. but yeah it was a good sunday.
so yeah there is my week. i hate the rain still. even though it rains hard every single bloody day as nanny would say, i have not gotten used to it but my comp told me. when we are in the rain working, my wife is in the gym working out. so my wife better be really strong. haha, kidding but really we are working super hard here and the thing i love the most are the study hours. i learn so much from them and like jon said, after the mission we will have studies about over hundreds of hours maybe even thousands. plus Elder Jeffery R. Holland said in a missionary broadcast, you will make or break your mission with what you do from 6 30 am to 10 30 am. so we really try to make the most of our time. but yeah i love you guys a lot and miss you a ton. and i hope all is going well. talk to you later
love elder shipley
