Hey there mother,
How are you doing? I miss you so much and I can’t wait to see you again. 13 Saturdays from today we will be together and we will probably be in the temple or something like that. How crazy is that to think? I only have 2 more change meetings to run and then my last one will be right before I go home. It will be so weird. Craig only has one left.
Well I don’t have a lot of time to write today but I will write you really briefly. We are on our way over to Hermana Guinac's house. So for my birthday it was pretty fun. Guatemalans are crazy. We went to a couple dinners and they were good, we went once with Thomas and they gave us this chicken that was amazing. I really do not know how the sister made it but it was so good. I will get the recipe for you mom. Anyways they gave us that, for my actual birthday, in the morning President and Sister Stay both called me and wished me a happy birthday and Sister Stay made me some Reese's Brownies. They were so good. Then we went as an office staff to a restaurant called Italinis. It was so dang good, I had a meatball spaghetti plate, and then after we ate they came and sang to me. It was funny. That night we went to dinner with a family to Pollo Campero, today lunch with Hermana Guinac, tonight dinner with the family of Drei, then tomorrow lunch with the bishop, and dinner with another family, then Monday dinner with a different family. I’m turning into Rachel and having a birthday week instead of birthday day. So anyways it was a good week and it is weird that it will be my last birthday here in the mission. I received a lot of calls from missionaries and messages too, so it was all really cool.
As far as lessons go, we had a good week with some investigators. We are trying too hard to maintain the 5 families that are progressing always but sometimes it gets hard. We have to manage so many things that we suffer a little. We always try to find time though to do all the things we need to do. We have one family; they are called the family Cinto. They are really nice. They come to church all the time and we went and taught them about the importance of the lessons and where we see them in about 2 months. We told them that the vision we have for them in 2 months, is nothing compared to the vision that God has for them in 100 or 200 or 1000 years. We cannot even comprehend that kind of a vision He has for us, and what really is our potential. We just need to take one day at a time and work our hardest and we will receive the blessings along the journey. We are teaching another sister whose name is Sister Gladdys. She is super funny, because she NEVER stops talking. She is such a chatter box. So in order for us to teach her we had to just talk the whole time, we would ask periodic questions, but we couldn’t do too many other wise she would talk too much. When we did that we actually had a really great lesson. We taught her about the restoration and she loved it. We got to the Joseph Smith part and the Spirit was so strong. All she could stay afterwards was, “well elders, you have got quite the story there. It’s either a big huge lie, or it is something that is marvelous. I need to pray and find out.” So we were pretty shocked about her response, and we are going to go visit her on Sunday. We also put a Baptism date with her for the last week in June. She will make a great member because she felt the Spirit so strongly. Elder Jeffery R. Holland says that all you need is a testimony of the Book of Mormon. Once you have that, you don’t need anything else. With that testimony you can be called names, not have a calling, and be destroyed physically, but if you have that testimony, then you shall stay strong in the church forever. It is so true because once someone has a testimony of the Book of Mormon, they can know of the true divine love that Jesus Christ has for all of us.
So to your letter now, ha that is funny about Daisy. She needs braces, get her some braces, and brush her little teeth. Pharmacist could be something interesting to work in, but it requires a lot of math and chemistry, I am not so sure how good I am at those subjects. I will look into it more then when I get home. I have not got the package yet, but I will be getting it probably next week. We haven’t had the chance to run by the post office anytime recently, so probably Monday I will get it. I was at the hospital this morning checking on another sister missionary that is in the hospital, and I was talking to the nurse, she said that I can eat occasionally a fast food meal, but that I need to cut all sodas from my diet, and eat very rarely out. For the last 13 weeks I will be eating better though. I want to get back into shape, so I need to work out now and swim a lot when I get home. That would be really fun to do a camping trip when I get home. I just want to have some fun but work really hard when I get back. Get into the mode of things. Alright mom, I love you and I will talk to you later. I hope you have a great week. I love you so much and miss you a ton. Talk to you later
With Love,
Elder Shipley
