Elder Walker is not the one whose mother sings in the choir, he was in my district and in my zone in the past and we have become really good friends since then. As assistants to president, we are on divisions like 2 to 3 times a week, each with different areas. So we go to all different kinds of places. Elder Castro and I are together every Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. From there we are off on divisions teaching other missionaries the doctrine of the mission and how they can be more obedient.
That is too funny about Makenna, that poor thing. I do not think that the sales would have had an impact on me too much. I think it would of helped give me a little more experience before the mission. The mission is all about that. We get rejected. But always God blesses us with at least one person, or family that we can go and teach. They generally fall and stop progressing but there is always someone new that we can find and teach. Every closed door is just another step closer to the family that will accept you. It’s all about staying optimistic. To be honest though, it is no different on the mission. For every 40 doors we touch, I would say that like 5 people would let us it. I have a new strategy though to where almost every door I touch and contact, we can get in and teach them. It is just about finding something where you immediately get them saying yes, yes, yes from the beginning. Teaching them stuff they already know, but in a different way so it makes them think like they don’t know.
It is sad to me to see how people can give into the worldly temptations so easily. People fall to Satan’s power and he makes them think that he has total control but he doesn’t and never will. I hope that we can always realize that we have more power than he does. Last week, President asked the whole mission to read the whole entire Book of Mormon once again, from beginning to end. So I was really impacted by one part that I read and I was able to really reflect on a lot of things. It was in 1 Nephi chapter 1 verse 20. It talks about the tender mercies of the Lord. I began to think, what really are the tender mercies of the Lord? I began to reflect, they are my family, my friends that the Lord has given me to protect me and make sure that I am on the right path, and then I started thinking about the greatness of the atonement. I am so thankful for the Atonement that we have in our lives. Without it I would be nothing. I am so thankful for the apostles and prophet, and for President Stay, and etc. All the things that the Lord has given me truly come from the love that He has for me. He does know me, and He does love me, and if He is willing to love me, an imperfect person, then I know for a fact that the Lord will love whomever. He just wants us to come back, constantly repent and follow Him.
Jamie did get married by the way.
With our phones we have unlimited minutes, and we talk to a lot of outside the nation people so we have a special plan.
The guy in the picture with me is an ex elder named Elder Guiellen. He was my zone leader in Cuilapa, and is an excellent guy. He came from El Salvador to visit me. I am starting to like Hispanic music now. I like this one group called Tigres de Norte. Question, who is André, ha how old is he?
My diet, well I have just decided it comes down to just eating on command. Not wanting to eat whenever I want to, but when I really need to. So when I get bored and think I want to eat, I don’t eat, but instead I eat because I have to. So only at 7 am, 1 pm, and 9 pm.
No, we only eat out when we have to, that food cupboard is just mine. Ha, were you a little scared of the food choices I have? Elder Castro likes to eat special k cereal, and fish food.
I feel really bad for nanny, try to help her out. Just give her someone to talk to and make her feel good. Sometimes people just need to open up and release what they have inside of them. I can’t wait to talk to nanny and have a heart to heart talk with her. I have tried to do that within my mission. Just try to get to know everyone for who they are and for what they can become. That would be great to bring Grammy to the San Diego with us.
Speaking of leaving impressions, we went to the temple today and it was a really neat experience. We were able to see the people from the Oratorio branch again, it was great. They were so happy to see us the branch president was there and he was really happy to see me, we went to go to lunch and he happened to go there too, it was pretty funny. Anyway, we went to the temple and we had a great experience. We were able to do the confirmations with the ward and it went well.
Well mom, I love you so much and I am so happy for all you do. Happy Mother’s day, you truly are the best mom that I could ever ask for, thank you for all you do every day and for always helping me in everything. I always thank God everyday for such a great mom, and I ask Him to bless you and protect you. I hope you receive those blessings. I can’t wait to be with you once again and to be able to do things again with you. Like to play tennis, or go eat lunch and other stuff. I love you mom.
Love always,
Elder Shipley
