He Arrived!

show details 12:24 PM (1 hour ago)
Alright well i am Officially in Guatemala. after i got off the phone with you the plane broke down so we were stuck for another 3 hours. we didnt end up getting to Guatemala until like 10 30. When we were landing i thought we were landing in a neighborhood, it was funny but scary too. also it was storming. It is really really humid here but it is alright. The plane was full of people who spoke spanish and i could understand them a little bit, but not really to much. then it was funny because when we were leaving the airport we were looking for someone to give us the ride to the mtc. There was a man to greet us but he knew no english. so that was eventful trying to figure out what he was saying. The MTC is alot different here. It is one building but everything is decorated in wood and hand made stuff. An elder was telling me that they take them to the market to but some stuff that is really cool. Our teachers know bearly any english so that is interesting. I have a new companion and he is really nice. His name is elder REX. also we arrived last night, and 35 latin americans arrived today who dont know one word in english, but this morning the mtc president taught us how to greet them so that was cool. I like the MTC president here too becasue he is able to be more personable with us. The one in provo has 2500 missionaries so it was hard for him, but the one here is able to be with us more. um, Our roommates tell us that you learn spanish a lot more faster here then what you would in provo because you are basically forced to do so. The food is alright but you know how picky i am. for breakfast we had beans and eggs, and for lunch we had pollo and potatos. They drink this brown stuff here which taste like apple juice but once you get to the bottom of it it is chunky and kinda weird. so i stick to the water. The people here are really nice though and are some of the nicest people ive met. um i dont really know what else to say. I am not sure about the security of packages yet, we havent really been able to ask, and i dont really know an address here. I think they pretty much use the pouch mail system too. We put our mail in a box, and it goes to slc then gets sent from there. But it will be different in the Field. our pdays are still wednesday so that is when ill be writing you. they seem a little bit more relaxed here then they are in provo but i guess that comes with being in a smaller mtc. oh and we have guards here who are armed with guns.(I had read about this on another missionary's blog serving in Guatemala - so I didn't stress out too much - haven't needed my meds yet!!) I guess when we walk anywhere, the temple, the practice house, we have to have a guard with us. well i have to get going now. I love you and hope to hear from you. love elder shipley
