Daniel called my mom's house first, I had driven to Tempe right after seminary and waited about a half hour before he called. My mom and I made small talk and then the phone rang, I told her to answer it. I could hear his voice and immediately was moved to tears. She talked for awhile, she is so brave, and then said, "here is your mom". The lump in my throat was huge, I squeaked a very soft, "hello". I told him I was there but just keep talking for awhile. Finally I could speak, we had a great conversation, he sounds wonderful, confident, happy, and excited. He had nothing but good things to say about the MTC (he LOVED it there), and his companion. He shared some funny stories and we expressed how much we LOVE each other and then it was time to say GOOD-BYE. I let my mom speak to him again, I heard her voice crack and saw her lips quiver. Now it was my turn, "good-bye Daniel, I love you". I quickly left my mom's home for the airport to pick up Rachel - I was being so brave and then when my car turned the corner it came out - it hurts to say good-bye. Daniel then called, Kate/Jon, Eric, Dad and finally Rachel - yea, I was in the car with her and could hear his voice again. They laughed and talked and then it was time................. Rachel and I cried again.
Daniel told me 600 missionaries left the MTC today, going all around the world. He said a SEMI-TRUCK pulled up to the MTC picked up all their luggage - drove it to SLC International - dumped it on the curb - and the driver and crew said, "good luck, don't miss your flight". My son is growing up fast.

I'm crying too! Now I can't wait to read his next e-mail from Guatemala!
