Hey there how is it going. yes i did watch all the sessions of conference and also the news in the middle. there wasnt much for us to do so the day was pretty much full of movies and stuff. My favorite talk was by Elder holland i think because he was speaking directly to us. Also it was cool because during conference i saw my whole district there in the mens choir. so that means i probably would of been in it. I also saw Elder Cruz, Smith, Dalton. Yes i keep up with Elder Covington, he told me he is teaching a family who just came from the Guatemala City. And that he is having a lot of teaching but it is rough.
That is nice that you had the missionaries over. From what i hear im not going to be eating at members houses. but we are not sure yet. we have a cook who comes to the apartment and cooks for us also there is a lady who comes and does our laundry. We met these missionaries the other day who were at the capilla and we were talking with them all. they got us pretty excited to get going. They say they eat really well and that we will have nothing to worry about. And hey why dont you send some carmel brownies here. ha you know i love those. And i dont think i have a problem with being shy. (One of the Elders we had for dinner has been out 8 weeks, he was shy. I wonder if Daniel is shy in Guat??) I am doing really well and am loving it. Oh yeah which reminds me I am the new district leader. It was tough at first because they merged districts and the district we got was kind of a different group. We are all doing really well now because we have helped build unity in our group but it was tough at first. Hermona Sosa pulled me aside yesterday and was telling me why she called me to be the District leader. She told me this. When she prayed about it, she knew as soon as she started praying that i was the one. She said that i have a very humble attitude and that i lead with my love. She says that is the best kind of leader you could ever be or want. she said that she had a lot of respect for me and that she doesnt know what it is but when ever i talk in class or teach a lesson, there is some kind of spirit that comes from my mouth that makes her feel good. That was exactly what i needed to hear. I remember Alexis (his cousin) telling me that you would have some hard times on your mission but then all the sudden one thing will happen to wipe all the bad things away. Hermona sosa is a really nice lady and she has alot of love for us and treats us really well.
That is a bummer to hear about Ironwood Ridge, I hope that they can get it together and start knowing what to do. I hope your leg will be ok and i will be praying about it. Hopefully you can get back on the tennis courts soon and start doing what you love again.
That is a bummer that Logan is post poning his mission call. My visa is still doing good, still no word but the last group that left, right when they were getting on the bus they were handed the visas, but apparently we can be here for 3 months without it so i'll be good for awhile.
I am not sure where they (elders from Phoenix) went to school but i know they live up in phoenix and went to BYU idaho. One of the ones i met, his name was Elder Bitner and he is related to Bobby Parks through his wife. Plus everyone says they know Camille, Tyler and Tressa too. so that is cool. I still have my same companion, he is pretty nice and we get along really well.
And i just got your package last night, along with a letter from terry and my friend Sascha. The ipod would be really safe coming, but just in case you should put a picture of jesus on it to make sure it comes here safely. And i'll try to think of a list of what to send when Brother Banner comes in Feb.
Oh the man wearing the hard hat was a tour guide we had, he was showing us the map of guatemala in ancient times and i just wanted a picture with his hat, plus as a group we gave him a Book of Mormon.
That is so funny about daisey. Elder Woodfield says he wants to meet her and say hi, haha. He is the one who's mom was in the Tabernacle Choir, it was cool seeing her. Maybe you should join so i can see you ever 6 months too. ha.
Emails are good to have, but i love receiving letters too. So keep the letters coming. And im not sure which is faster but whatever is cheaper is what you should do. And take pictures when you go to California, so i can see paul and jack and you and dad and kate and jon, and rachel and eric.
I cant wait to leave the CCM, it is fun here but i cannot wait to get started in the field. they say that is where the real learning begins. We also live in our own apartments. They say that we have a really nice view of all the city and everything around. There is another elder i made friends with, Elder durfeys comp, his name is Elder Erickson. We have a lot in common and get along really well. He is a funny kid from utah and me and him hang out quite a bit.
Oh and here is a funny story. So people say that you get trained before your mission to help people on your mission. Well last week a girl passed out and was shaking on the floor. So i was able to help her out a little bit and do what i knew to do. She is fine now but it was scary at first. It is amazing how the Lord will put you in opportunities and we are there to react and take care of people. we just need to open our eyes be aware of whats out there. Well i better get going. ill talk to you guys later. i love you all so much.
love Elder Shipley
oh p.s. i got my first guatemalan hair cut. it was pretty interesting but the guys did a really good job and it looks good. i sent you a picture of that.
